Kenny Dail is originally from Kinston, North Carolina and has been playing
steel guitar for over 50 years. He is considered a master of the instrument not only by
his suburb playing ability, but by his overall knowledge of the instrument itself. He
currently plays a green 1974 Emmons push pull with a wooden neck and a Peavey Session 500
or an Evans FET (HV) amp. He recently purchased a Mullen Royal Precision D10. His effects
are an Alesis QuadReverb and a BossTone.
Kenny is respected by all who meet him or hear him play. Just last year Kenny was in the
hospital for a few days and recieved a "Get Well Soon" phone call from the big
"E" himself. Kenny also is a historian of the steel guitar. Ask him a question
about who played on a record, in a band, or what kind of guitar so and so played in any
time frame...and Kenny can give the answer almost before you can finish the question.
Kenny has won the VCMA's "Instrumentalist of the Year"
many times.
Kenny's favorite players are Buddy Emmons and Jerry Byrd.
His favorite instrumental to play is " Steeling The Blues" played on his 1931
Rickenbacker Frypan Lap Steel and "Buds Bounce" on Pedal Steel.
He is currently freelancing with several bands in the area. Previously he
was with Southern Country, the Tee Maroney Shoe, and Boot Hill Express.
His Tuning is E9th outside neck and C6th inside neck.
